Honest, Hawaiians, I used to be in favor of returning Hawaii to independent sovereignty because it was the right thing to do. These days, the more I hear about Hawaii, the more I want to give it back… for reasons that aren’t quite so positive. So, have at it — this is one less haole you’ll have to worry about. The Mormons, however, are still your problem.

We grieve only for our own loss, and we thank you, Ms. Wilson, for everything:
Margaret Bush Wilson, who died Tuesday at age 90, was remembered by her family as an woman whose unassuming manner belied a strong passion for social justice and lifelong love for bridge and books. She was the first woman to head the board of the national NAACP and held that post for nine terms, starting in 1975. Among the many tributes to Mrs. Wilson, U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-St. Louis, summed it up when he called her “a giant” and “a dear friend.”

Gary Frago: Thinks the assassination of Barack Obama is a funny joke.
But even we don’t use language like that.
One constituent did call him a “disgusting, humorless, racist sad sack of sh*t” (directly, in an email), but we think the fellow was being generous.
So we’ll just call Gary Frago what he is — a Republican — and let the news (which shows that Frago is hardly the only “joker” in Atwater seemingly oblivious to his own vile racism) tell the story. Video after the jump.

They’re back — and they’re insane:
In Pensacola, Fla., retired FBI agent Ted Gunderson tells a gathering of antigovernment “Patriots” that the federal government has set up 1,000 internment camps across the country and is storing 30,000 guillotines and a half-million caskets in Atlanta.

Quite satisfying, finding this at the Mormon blog Messenger and Advocate:
“Glenn Beck An Embarrassment To Mormons–
Perpetuates Harmful, Untrue Stereotypes“
Not, mind you, that M&A goes to any great lengths to explain why Beck’s accusation that Barack Obama “has a deep seated hatred for white people or white culture” (whatever “white culture” is supposed to be) is “ridiculous”; rather, the real point of the piece is: “[W]hat makes Glenn Beck’s comments more harmful is that he claims he is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church does not need this type of publicity or association,” especially since the “post Proposition 8 media spin has already harmed the Church’s image painting Mormons who stood for religious principle as propagating hate and intolerance and being on the fringe.”
“Mormons … propagating hate and intolerance and being on the fringe”? Doesn’t sound like “spin” to us.

WASHINGTON — A federal grand jury in the District of Columbia has returned a seven-count indictment charging James Wenneker Von Brunn, 89, of Annapolis, Md., with the murder of Special Police Officer Stephen Tyrone Johns and related hate crime and gun charges for his alleged attack on the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on June 10, 2009.

“In 1991, I helped E. Lynn and he helped me. I had my own magazine ‘SBC’ that was widely distributed for the LGBT community and when he came out with his first novel, ‘Invisible Life,’ I said let’s do some stories on him because the stories he’s telling about our community is groundbreaking. … I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for E. Lynn Harris.”
What a loss. What a terrible loss.
The obituary from Essence downplays his gayness (even in the linked article, “E. Lynn Harris’s personal side”), but Harris’s contemporaries, at least, don’t mince words in the buried piece, “Black Writers Remember Author E. Lynn Harris.”

Ann Coulter prepares for Glenn Beck appearance with Fox News producers in green room.
Goodness knows, I’d never want to insult insects by lifting Ann Coulter to their level of intelligent and sentience. Besides, it’s entirely possible insects have souls, which, as we all know, Ann Coulter does not:
Ann Coulter: “Being Black Trumps Being an Insect”
Ann Coulter on the Glenn Beck show on Friday … said Liberals want to be black so they can be victims.
Beck: Does everybody wanna be Black?
Coulter: Liberals do because that’s the official, the top victim status so that being black trumps being an insect and ahhh, huh…
Being black [trumps] being an insect? Watch the video…

Actor Stephen Baldwin files for bankruptcy in NY
Actor Stephen Baldwin, brother of Emmy winner and “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin, filed for bankruptcy in New York on Tuesday, according to a court document that says he is millions in debt.
The 43-year-old actor filed for Chapter 11 protection claiming he owes more than $2.3 million and owns a New York property valued at only $1.1 million. His wife, Kennya Baldwin, also is named in the document. …
So, why do we care?

I also received an e-mail with a photo of a very mature fetus’ arm protruding through — what? — a hole in a pregnant belly? A bloody image meant to shock. Turns out the same photo is posted on the FreeRepublic thread about my column, but the contributor, calling himself Revelation 911, confides that it’s actually a picture of in-utero surgery and that the gestation went full-term. …
There are a couple of ugly remarks regarding anatomy and even rape, and a bunch of digs at San Francisco. A few people suggested it was time for another earthquake here. It was supposed to be funny, but it amounts to a wish for my death. There’s a lot of that among pro-lifers, I guess. Someone suggested advocates for choice should commit suicide!
I guess I’m surprised that anybody else is surprised by the current wave of racism overflowing the cesspit known as Free Republic. Oh, yes indeedy, the latest freeper attacks on Malia Obama are utterly vile, and make me want to throw up all over Jim Robinson’s entire operation (but that’s the problem with virtual communities: there’s nothing to throw up on, save for the Web server dutifully regurgitating the spew from the diseased minds of the perpetually persecuted).
Nevertheless, I don’t understand why anyone should be surprised by this latest display of racist hate. Maybe it’s because they’re attacking a little girl? No… They attacked Chelsea Clinton plenty. Maybe because they’re using some of the worst sort of racist talk? No… They do that all the time. Maybe because they’re slamming a wartime President? No, no, no — that’s what they attacked liberals for doing during the Bush Reign. And they’ve made (and still occasionally make) death threats against Bill Clinton. (I remember, quite clearly, seeing one freeper express the wish to nail Bill’s body to the front door of the White House; I’ll see if I can find a copy of the message I sent to the FBI quoting it.)
Whatever the reason folks are so up in arms over Freakerville this time, it’s good to see JimRob’s Institute for the Criminally Logic-Challenged being exposed, again, in the MSM…

Military accepting neo-Nazis,
white supremacists, probe finds
The US military has effectively adopted a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy concerning white supremacists and neo-Nazis in an effort to bolster recruiting and retention, an article published Monday says. …
[T]he Army’s recruiting difficulties have opened the floodgates to those who’d otherwise be turned away: neo-Nazis, white supremacists and gang members.
Writing in Salon, reporter Matt Kennard says the decision to open the military’s doors has had “drastic consequences.”
“Some neo-Nazis have been charged with crimes inside the military, and others have been linked to recruitment efforts for the white right,” Kennard writes. “Many white supremacists join the Army to secure training for, as they see it, a future domestic race war. Others claim to be shooting Iraqis not to pursue the military’s strategic goals but because killing ‘hajjis’ is their duty as white militants.” …
Well, at least they’re not gay!
More at the link, and a fascinating, if stomach-turning piece at Salon: “Neo-Nazis are in the Army now: Why the U.S. military is ignoring its own regulations and permitting white supremacists to join its ranks.”

Dear Obama Supporters: I won’t wait for your apology. But you owe me one. A big one.
Just read — but don’t weep. Be pissed — at Obama, and at yourself if you voted for him in the primaries, and especially if you voted for him in the primaries and ever called anyone who disagreed with you a racist, a Hillbot, a Repuke troll, a PUMA, or any of your other terms of affection for anyone who dared warn you that Obama was a right-winger in a nice suit.
I get no satisfaction in saying, for the umpteenth time: I TOLD YOU SO.

Conservative Babylon, as our regular readers know, is our continually updated database/blog of right-wingers gone really, really bad.
It’s also the most consistently popular section of the entire Lavender Liberal site, whose traffic is solid and steady — but which, to no surprise, spikes when something big happens involving one of the hundreds of Republican/Christian rapists, child molesters, serial divorcés, garden-variety adulterers, or other miscreants we’ve been keeping book on since 2003.

You can hear the cringing in the White House from San Francisco:
Wright: ‘Them Jews’ won’t let Obama talk to me
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the former Chicago pastor whose racially-charged sermons threatened to implode President Obama’s primary bid last year, is again making waves over recent comments about his current relationship with the commander-in-chief.
“Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me,” Wright told Virginia newspaper The Daily Press when asked if he still spoke with Obama. “I told my baby daughter, that he’ll talk to me in five years when he’s a lame duck, or in eight years when he’s out of office.”
“They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is,” he added. “I said from the beginning: He’s a politician; I’m a pastor. He’s got to do what politicians do.”
The former pastor of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, where Obama was a congregant for nearly two decades, also told the paper he holds no grudges against the president’s very public break from Wright last year.
“He’s my son. I’m proud of him,” Wright said. …
Madonn’!
Then again, what does it matter what I think? I’m just another garlic nose.

Don’t buy into the specious reason for the ban-’n'-burn; we think we know what their real problem is (stay tuned after the jump).
From the American Library Association, June 3rd:
Milwaukee Group Seeks Fiery Alternative to Materials Challenge
Life grows more interesting by the day for officials of the West Bend (Wis.) Community Memorial Library. After four months of grappling with an evolving challenge to young-adult materials deemed sexually explicit by area residents Ginny and Jim Maziarka, library trustees voted 9–0 June 2 to maintain the young-adult collection as is “without removing, relocating, labeling, or otherwise restricting access” to any titles. However, board members were made cognizant that same evening that another material challenge waited in the wings: Milwaukee-area citizen Robert C. Braun of the Christian Civil Liberties Union (CCLU) distributed at the meeting copies of a claim for damages he and three other plaintiffs filed April 28 with the city; the complainants seek the right to publicly burn or destroy by another means the library’s copy of Baby Be-Bop. The claim also demands $120,000 in compensatory damages ($30,000 per plaintiff) for being exposed to the book in a library display, and the resignation of West Bend Mayor Kristine Deiss for “allow[ing] this book to be viewed by the public.” …
