Carrie Prejean. The Boob Job Doth Protest Too Much.
In light of recent developments Carrie Prejean has released the following statement:
Statement by Carrie Prejean
SAN DIEGO, May 5 /PRNewswire/ — “On April 19, I chose to answer a question during the 2009 Miss USA pageant in an honest and personal manner that expressed my views of the long-established definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman. That answer, and my commitment to stand by my beliefs, has since resulted in attacks on me and my integrity as a woman. We live in a great country; a nation that was built on freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Yet my comments defending traditional marriage have led to intimidation tactics that seek to undermine my reputation and somehow silence me and my beliefs, as if opinion is only a one-way street.
Intimidation tactics? What intimidation tactics? According to your own words you’ve only had positive feedback since the pageant. Or are you confusing yourself with Miley Cyrus, who has been targeted by One Millions Moms (one of those “pro-family” groups) for having the audacity to opine that gays aren’t evil scum who deserve no rights at all?
“I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently, photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith. I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be. But these attacks on me and others who speak in defense of traditional marriage are intolerant and offensive. While we may not agree on every issue, we should show respect for others’ opinions and not try to silence them through vicious and mean-spirited attacks.
It is not for your religious faith that people are mocking you. It is for your blatant hypocrisy. If you want to live according to the Bible and your chosen religious beliefs that’s your choice and your right. But you have no right whatsoever to demand others do so, particularly when you are quite obviously failing to live according to them yourself. Christians who claim to be promoting “Biblical correctness” and insist that same-sex couples should not be allowed to marry because of what the Bible says are on very shaky foundation when they themselves pose for photos in lingerie, string bikinis and even nude. If one is going to insist others live according to the Bible, and to promote legislation forcing others to live according to the Bible, it is beyond hypocritical for that individual to make a living in a way that directly violates the Bible.
And who are you to complain about “vicious and mean spirited attacks”? You pretend the things you say about gay people are kind because you say them with a smile and claim you “love” them, but they’re cruel and biting. Denying people fundamental human rights because you think your chosen religious beliefs give you the authority to do so is truly vicious and mean spirited.
“With that in mind, I will continue to support and defend marriage as the honorable institution it is. I will continue to stand with the overwhelming majority of the American people and the voters of my home state of California. If this whole experience has taught me anything, it is our precious right to speak freely, and how we as Americans can never allow anyone or any group to intimidate or threaten us to keep silent.”
Might doesn’t make right. Enjoy your Tyranny of the Majority while it lasts. You are on the wrong side of history and one day you will learn that oppressing others just because you don’t like them, or because you were taught to by somebody else, is anything but honorable.
