What a day for religious-hypocrisy scandals! Last night, we get the first of six promised nude pictures of Carrie Prejean (whose frantic, middle-of-the-night press release defending herself, and not denying anything, convinces us that the photo we’ve seen is real, and Miss California Jugs for Jesus expects the silicone to really hit the fan once the rest of the pics hit the Web), and today, we find a thoroughly misleading headline on the cover of the sleazy tabloid, the Globe:
The woman who’s breaking her heart!
Misleading because no, the lone distaff member of the mind-numbingly boring Mormon clan so big it dwarfs several first-world nations is not, herself, gay (at least as far as we know). It’s her daughter the rag is referring to.
And yes, we do avoid sleazy tabloid rags… Well, OK, we did avoid sleazy tabloid rags, until The National Enquirer blew the lid off John Edwards’ disgusting affair with Rielle Hunter — and, honestly, we’ve suspected there’s a lot more substance to sleazy tabloid rags ever since Confidential magazine outed Liberace in 1957 (or, rather, since we first read about the story in the 1970s; neither of us was born ’til the 1960s). Liberace sued the rag for libel, won the lawsuit, and then… And then you know the real story: Liberace was, indeed, queer as a three-dollar bill. But not gay as a daisy in May — just a sad old closet queen terrified of losing his legions of ancient blue-haired fans, most of whom had no clue “gay” was no longer a synonym solely for “cheerful.”
So, we don’t dismiss sleazy tabloids right off the bat anymore.
But: Is it true what the Globe is saying about the daughter of twice-divorced Marie Osmond — which that venerable grandpa of sleazy tabloids, the National Enquirer, alluded to nearly three years ago? Well, since Marie (like Carrie Prejean, just last night) issued a statement that didn’t deny anything, we think the answer is yes.

Marie Osmond was shocked to discover that the National Enquirer discovered sexually explicit material on her own daughters’ MySpace profiles. Osmond’s older daughter, 18-year-old Jessica, posted that she is bi-sexual and wants to have sex “as many times as possible, while 16-year-old Rachael identifies herself as a “slut” and “whore” who has fantasies about David Bowie. Osmond released a statement to the Enquirer saying, “I am saddened by some of the choices that two of our children have made. The insidious potential for harm from adolescent Internet sites like MySpace.com only exacerbates these kinds of problems. If my being a celebrity figure is good for anything, let it be as a voice of warning to other parents that no matter how protective we think we may have been with our children in the past, we need to become more knowledgeable and even more vigilant now in order to protect them.”

I remember a couple of years ago when (then-fat) Marie Osmond’s daughters were caught with MySpace profiles proclaiming bisexuality (Jessica) and nymphomania (both Jessica and Rachael). And now for the rest of the story…Gay-obsessed Globe (May 11, 2009) reveals that Jessica Osmond is a lesbian who has had a marriage ceremony with her partner, all of which info is quite perplexing to Mormon Marie. The article asserts that Marie is so against her daughter’s sexuality that she barely discusses it, even with close friends, and prays for a conversion.
By the way, Donny and Marie were pro-Proposition 8, and Marie is so far gone she’s comparing herself to Madonna, who she thinks is a couple of years older than her (more like eight months). …
And Wendyista has a closer scan of Jessica, who (while we maintain you can never tell who’s gay and who’s not just by appearance) is a whole lot butcher than her Uncle Donny ever was. (Which reminds me of the time I was sitting at my grandparents’ kitchen table, poring over the latest Tiger Beat, when Grandpa Max looked over my shoulder, pointed to a photo of Donny when he was, like, 12 or something — like this — and asked me who “that girl” was. When I explained Donny was a boy, Max refused to believe it, despite my insistence.)

Straight-laced Marie Osmond has been hiding a secret: She doesn’t talk to her 22-year-old daughter Jessica, because she doesn’t condone her lesbian lifestyle. …Marie is a devout Mormon, a religion that considered homosexuality evil and blamed a child’s sexual preference on poor parenting. …
“She also keeps praying to God that Jessica is just going through a phase and will eventually choose a lifestyle she finds more acceptable.”
