Anti-Gay Mormons: Lying Or Just Stupid? You Decide.

Read this blog post, get pissed off, and then come back:

Separate Realities–No Common Ground

Same old crap, right? Right. Not even enough to piss me off anymore, I’m so used to this bull puckey. But that’s not the thing; this is: the comments. And in case any of the comments disappear, here’s the exchange that makes me remember there is no such thing as “reaching out” to these people:

djinn : Are you serious, after the “extortion” letter sent out by the protect marriage crowd, including an LDS representative, the massive amounts of money raised by the Mormon church, the ads funded in some large extent by the LDS at least implicitly depicting members of the gay community as a threat to children and common decency, etc, etc., etc., this gentleman is furious because of what exactly? Because “it” doesn’t benefit society; what is he talking about? Why not?

The Jack Mormon: Djinn - your comment perfectly illustrates why there can be NO common ground between our two sides. You maliciously characterize the Church’s pastoral letter to California as “extortion”, and you falsely claim that the “Church” raised massive amounts of money, when it was the individual members who actually raised the money.

When you have completely different definitions for the same words and concepts, no dialog is either possible or desirable. And considering that gays only constitute three percent of the population, we understandably have no coercive pressure upon us to engage in dialog with you.

I’m with Chris Buttars on this issue 100 percent.

Sapphocrat: The Jack Mormon: Your comment perfectly illustrates your complete ignorance. Djinn is obviously talking about the letter sent by four members of the ProtectMarriage.com executive committee to companies which donated to No On 8, “requesting” they make an in-kind contribution to Yes On 8, lest they be blacklisted as opponents of “traditional marriage.” Don’t believe me? Read the story here: http://news.lavenderliberal.com/2008/10/24/courage-campaign… — or better yet, Google it. I dare you to let this comment stand — and I challenge you to retract your [accusation] of “malicious characterization”. You are in the wrong here, and you should own up to [your] error.

(Misspellings because I was pissed.)

I was a hell of a lot nicer than I could have (or perhaps should have) been.

I’m sick to death of these arrogant, smug buttholes. You think this “Jack Mormon” doesn’t know about the blackmail letter? You think any of them doesn’t know about it? They’re on the Internet. They know. They farking know. And they farking lie. Jon Krakauer writes about “lying for the Lord” in Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith, and MormonWiki boils it down thusly:

Lying for the Lord refers to the practice of lying to protect the image of and belief in the Mormon religion, a practice which Mormonism itself fosters in various ways. From Joseph Smith’s denial of having more than one wife, to polygamous Mormon missionaries telling European investigators that reports about polygamy in Utah were lies put out by “anti-Mormons” and disgruntled ex-members, to Gordon B. Hinckley’s dishonest equivocation on national television over Mormon doctrine, Mormonism’s history seems replete with examples of lying. Common members see such examples as situations where lying is justified. For the Mormon, loyalty and the welfare of the church are more important than the principle of honesty, and plausible denials and deception by omission are warranted by an opportunity to have the Mormon organization seen in the best possible light. This is part of the larger package of things that lead many to describe Mormonism as a cult. “Lying for the lord” is part of Mormonism’s larger deceptive mainstreaming tactics, and conversion numbers would drastically lower if important Mormon beliefs were fully disclosed to investigators.

I’m sick of this crap, and sicker still of the “nice gays” and other “nice liberals” who shy away from calling out this crap. The Mormons who are “with Chris Buttars on this issue 100 percent” are either lying like dogs, or just stupid. There is no in-between.

And since Mormons at large do not appear to be barred from using the Internet (God knows, I wish they were!), every last one has the choice to become informed, or stick their fingers in their ears and chant “Lalalalalalalala!” until they drown out the truth.

I’m calling out all Mormons. All of them.

To those of you who are merely ignorant: If your faith is as strong as you think it is, it won’t be harmed a bit by learning the truth. If you’re afraid to buck the church’s order not to read any “non-approved” views, then you are not only ignorant, but cowardly. Why do you think they don’t want you to take opposing views under serious consideration? Because they know you’ll start to think for yourself, that’s why.

And to you Mormons who only feign ignorance: I have nothing to say to you, except: It’s your Hell — you burn in it.
