I Just Donated My Entire Month’s Earnings to No On 8

Actually, I just donated my entire month’s earnings (my sole source of income right now is the Lavender Liberal CafePress shop), plus a few bucks extra to bring it up to the next round number, to defeat Proposition 8 in California.

It is my first four-figure donation.

I can’t afford it. I am the “working poor.” I make less in a year than most folks reading this make in three months. I live on the edge of financial disaster every day.

But my current financial situation is unimportant, and temporary, while the war for full, equal, civil rights for everyone — win or lose — will outlive me and my piddly little personal worries forever.

If I go down, I am going down fighting. If they beat me — if they kill me — I’ll go out knowing I did everything I could to fight the cancerous poison of bigotry disguised as Christian “love,” and make this a better world for the generations of freedom-loving defenders of equality who come after me, and who will never even know my name.

I implore you to donate something, anything to stop the religious extremists from taking away our legal right to marry in California, and to make this hate-filled world a better place — if not for me, for your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren.

If I can sacrifice my entire earnings for the month of October, you can afford something. I know of one person who just applied for welfare and has still managed to kick in ten dollars. That ten dollars is just as vital to protecting our equality as my entire month’s income.

Don’t let them destroy our civil rights. Don’t let them destroy our happiness. Don’t let them force anyone to live by their religious beliefs.

Please, do something, and do it right now — you may never get another chance:

DONATE NOW
