Your Morning Sarah Palin Oppo Research

Don’t scoff — McCain’s base reads this stuff, religiously

This week’s Us Magazine:

As for The National Enquirer, it’s sleazy, but right on the heels of breaking the John Edwards affair, the Palin headlines, true or not, will carry weight:

We don’t know about the affair allegation, but, apparently, the Enquirer forced Palin’s hand on announcing the pregnancy of her unmarried 17-year-old teenager:

“The ultra-conservative governor’s announcement about her daughter’s pregnancy came hours after The ENQUIRER informed her representatives and family members of Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol’s child, that we were aware of the pregnancy and were going to break the news. In a preemptive strike Palin released the news, creating political shockwaves.”

…in the hope all you folks with more time and energy than I have can use all this great stuff (I’m kinda up-to-here with Proposition 8 stuff, and actual real-life stuff):

Q. What happens when you’re a maniacal right-winger who opposes sex education, opting instead to rely on the proven failure called “abstinence-only”?

A. Your underage daughter gets knocked up.

3. Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?

SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

More on Palin’s “moral values” hypocrisy:

Is Palin a hero or villain?
“…I didn’t make Palin’s historic Republican candidacy about her indoor plumbing and what she decides to do with it; John McCain and evangelical voters did. I’m only applying the family values guidelines conservatives refined over decades of culture war-mongering to package Murphy Brown and Gennifer Flowers and Britney Spears. Under those rules, Palin’s decisions as a mother are fair game.”

More on Palin and Alaskan secession:

Palin’s secession flirtation
“It’s untrue that Palin has no foreign policy experience, anyway. In fact, she appears to have seriously flirted with the idea of trying to turn Alaska into a foreign country. … Over the years, Palin has actively courted the Alaska Independence Party, or AIP, an organization that supports Alaskan secession from the U.S. To be clear, we’re not necessarily talking about friendly secession either: As the AIP’s founder, Joe Vogler, told an interviewer in 1991: ‘The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. … And I won’t be buried under their damn flag.’ The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. could learn from this man.”
