Pastors plan rally on gay marriage A group of central-Iowa pastors opposed to gay marriage announced plans Thursday for an Oct. 28 prayer rally on the issue. The 14 church leaders showed their solidarity for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage at a news conference at Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines. “This is not about hate but about differences of beliefs,” said the Rev. Keith Ratliff of the Maple Street church. “God’s word is clear to us that marriage is only between one man and woman.” . . . Carolyn Jensen, executive director of One Iowa, a gay and lesbian advocacy group, said people’s civil rights are at the heart of the issue. “Extending equal rights to all Iowans does not affect the practices of Iowa’s faith leaders and their communities,” she said.
