Getting Real with Steve Westly

This probably won’t interest anyone outside California, but I just have to blow off steam.

Got an email solicitation today from Joe Trippi, who’s managing the gubernatorial campaign for Steve Westly. A form letter, of course, and I suppose westly2006.com picked up my email address from democrats.com.

Anyway… I’m not stupid enough to think a reply to a canned come-on will do any good, but I took a chance anyway.

From them:

Dear J—-,

Thousands of Californians have joined Steve Westly’s campaign for Governor.  Because Steve Westly is building the Democratic campaign that will defeat Arnold Schwarzenegger and put California back on a progressive course for the future. You can help by joining Steve’s campaign today…

Yada, yada, yada.

I replied:

On the off-chance anyone will actually read this reply:

You must be joking.

As far as I’m concerned, Steve Westly is not only in bed with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but is a darling of the DLC — which, frankly, is at least as responsible as — if not
more than — the RNC for the disastrous defeat of Democratic candidates across the board for the past six years.

Why in the world would I support a DINO married to a faction of the party I don’t even recognize anymore, as it steamrolls its way over the bodies of formerly yellow-dog Democrats like me, in order to cozy up to the Radical Right Wing?

The DINOs throw progressives under the bus, and still expect our support?

Puh-leeze.

Oh, one more thing: It was never lost on me that Westly was the first to start the attack ads. He (and his entire campaign) should be ashamed.

In other words, Phil Angelides has a lock on my vote.

P.S. I should be surprised you’re working for Westly, Joe,
but I’m not. Howard Dean turned out to be not quite the
progressive he made himself out to be, either, did he?

Certainly not my most eloquent prose, but at least I got it off my chest.

Be a trip if somebody actually replied, but I’m not holding my breath.
